Ethereum, which often trades as ETH/USD, is the second largest and most popular cryptocurrency in the world. Ethereum was created by Vitalik Buterin and co-creator, Charles Hoskinson, who later went on to create Cardano. Ethereum is notable for its structure, and the ability to code smart contracts on to the blockchain. This can then be used to facilitate transactions and this has been at the source of the craze behind NFTs or Non-fungible Tokens.
Ethereum is more than just a cryptocurrency as the ability to code smart contracts widens its use base considerably. This gives the coin a strong advantage against the top cryptocurrency of Bitcoin, which was essentially created with Satoshi Nakamoto’s white paper and has continued to operate within that structure. Ethereum, meanwhile, has a strong developer base led by Buterin that allows for swift changes as the community demands. One such illustration of this was the move to Ethereum 2.0 in the effort of becoming more green, after electricity usage came under storm following Elon Musk’s embrace and then rejection of Bitcoin.
